Matt Gannon and Michael Larocca formed a musical bond over improvised music 2 or 3 years or so ago, and it finally occurred to them that they should record an album. Over the summer of 2018, armed with a field recorder and a cheap vocal microphone, in the basement of Michael Larocca’s home they began to record everything they would play. These sessions would produce the material they would use for this album. After recording for many sessions, they sat down together and waded through the hours of recordings to find the best bits to release to the public.

The guitar work of Gannon is very angular, yet it is rooted in a blues and modal sound, taking influence from musicians such as Ali Farka Toure, Blind Willie McTell, Lead Belly, Woody Guthrie, Antennae Jimmy Semens and Zoot Horn Rollo from Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band, Bill Orcutt, Carson McWhirter and Spencer Seim of Hella, and the improvisatory musings of Derek Bailey, while Larocca’s drumming echoes the influence of Han Bennink, Andrew Cyrille, Paul Lovens, Paul Lytton, Muhammad and Rashied Ali, Sunny Murray, Chris Corsano, and Milford Graves amongst others.
